restic is the backup tool sysadmins recommend to each other: a single binary, encrypted and deduplicated repositories, and support for local disks, SFTP, S3-compatible storage and more via rclone.

It is CLI-only by design. Scheduling, retention and notifications are your job (cron, systemd timers, or wrappers like resticprofile), which is either a feature or a dealbreaker depending on who you are.

The right choice for anyone comfortable in a terminal who values verifiable, scriptable backups over dashboards.
