Forgejo

Forgejo is the community-governed fork of Gitea, run under a nonprofit umbrella and used in production by Codeberg. Day to day it feels very close to Gitea: fast, light, with issues, pull requests and Actions-style CI.

The difference is governance and direction — Forgejo prioritizes community ownership, and its roadmap includes long-term work on forge federation. Migrating from Gitea has historically been straightforward, though the projects continue to diverge over time.

Choose it if the politics of your forge matter to you as much as the features.
