Immich is the closest thing self-hosting has to a Google Photos replacement: automatic uploads from the mobile apps, a fast timeline, face recognition and machine-learning search that runs entirely on your hardware.

Development moves quickly, which cuts both ways — features land fast, but you should read release notes before upgrading. The ML features also want real resources; plan for more RAM than a typical media container.
