Jellyfin

Jellyfin is the fully open-source media server: it catalogs your movies, shows and music, fetches artwork and metadata, and streams to clients on TVs, phones and browsers. No account with a vendor, no feature paywall, no phone-home.

It is a community fork of Emby and has grown into the default recommendation for self-hosters. Worth knowing before you commit:

• Hardware transcoding works well but takes some setup (and a capable GPU or iGPU).
• Client polish varies by platform; the TV apps improve steadily but trail the big commercial services.
• Everything works offline on your LAN.

Pick Jellyfin if you want the whole stack under your control and are willing to trade a little client polish for zero licensing strings.
