Kavita is a reading server: point it at folders of CBZ, EPUB and PDF files and it builds a library with a genuinely good web reader for both comics and prose. Reading progress syncs per user, and OPDS support connects it to third-party reader apps.

Its metadata handling favors well-named files and series folders, so like most library servers it rewards tidiness. The project iterates quickly and the reader UI is a clear cut above most self-hosted alternatives.
